This is the sculpture or project that I'm currently working on ...

May 24, 2013

On a whim, I decided I wanted to make a small book pendant using some of the metal scraps from earlier sculptures as the cover.  I've never made a real book with signatures so it was an exciting challenge!  Of course this great idea came about an hour before the show opening at Slate Venues in Richardson, so I was able to finish it enough to wear it that evening.  The real fun began when I returned home and I could have fun with the embellishment phase!

January 15, 2013

It's finished!  Still working on the title though.  I'm getting great suggestions from my Facebook friends.  This piece is for Alley's House, which works with teen mothers to give them the tools to be successful parents and citizens.

I want to convey that it's the dreams of better things that will motivate these young mothers to accomplish even more than what society typically expects of them.

Untitled, as yet.  24x24; paper, plaster, acrylic and metal on board.

Update:  The title is "Dreams Beyond the Now".
It is currently available at Slate Gallery at II Creeks Plaza in Richardson.

January 14, 2013

This is my starting point today. The second pic shows the placement of the kinetic pieces.

I have some additional shading to do around each tiny seed puff and then touching up on the white.  Then the fun begins!  Attaching all the tiny kinetic seeds!  And BRRRR!  It's cold in my 3 car studio...

I'm working on my auction piece benefiting Alley's House on February 2nd!  I chose papers for the background and Brandon, my oldest son, papered the board substrate for me.  He has done quite a bit of this, as he helped me prepare 50 works for the Omni Hotel project a few years ago.  Here's the starting pic and the progress I've made so far.

I'm behind in updating this website.  CityArtCal, Inc has been taking much of my time.  But I have managed to work on new pieces.  Here is one I'm working on for the Jordan Winery competition and I have a fishie sculpture commission I'm working on as well!

January 3, 2012
Finished except for a bit more drying time for the gloss medium put over the exposed paper flutter-byes.  I've added 4 kinetic metal flutter-byes from drink cans and I antiqued the gold background just a bit.  It should be ready to drop off at Alley's House in the next day or two.

My son, Brandon, and I papered this 24" wood base in preparation for paint and plaster.  This will be the piece I submit for the "Incrementum" show and sale benefiting Alley's House.  Stay tuned!

I started this 24" square canvas for the fundraiser for Alley's House, which is due January 5th. I'm at a stopping point for the night.  This was supposed to be a sweet floaty green background for some lovely plaster dandelions, but there was apparently a much more pressing image that needed to come out.  Funny what happens when the heart and the hands just take over.  ♥

I don't have new work to post at the moment - I've recently become the publisher of "Fine Art in Dallas" and this is the busy season!  I'll be back to work in the next few weeks once the dust settles.  Stay tuned for more updates!

August 27, 2011
It starts with a pencil sketch.  This is a 30 inch square canvas.  I've darkened the picture so the light pencil lines show up.

August 20, 2011
I've finished drawing the deer.  Next comes shading, clean up and lettering.

August 17, 2011
This is my stopping point for the night.  I'm making a large version of one of my small drawings.  Ink on 24" square canvas.

August 16, 2011
I've started working on a deer.  This is my stopping point for the night.

August 15, 2011
I just finished this peacock.  What a challenge!  Some of the photos are coming out yellow, for whatever reason...

August 14, 2011
I've added ferns in the background.  Painted, shaded and ready to frame!

August 13, 2011
This is a Texas Bluegill.  Still to come, background plants and possibly paint.

August 12, 2011
I spent the day learning how to "tangle" with Zentangle instructor Susan Thillen.  What a wonderful experience!
Here are a few finished tiles and a few with practice patterns.  I predict some will pop up in my paintings!

August 10, 2011
This is a small piece called "Super NATURAL ®".  The banner is made from a recycled drink can and there's a shell on top.  Buddha head is made from handmade grass paper and the canvas is covered with a different handmade paper and acrylic paint.  This was just for fun, really and I think it makes a statement. Better photos coming...

August 6, 2011
Starting point for a new work - plaster horse on canvas.  Now I'm at a stopping point until I can look at it in the daylight. I think the title will be "Big Sky Ranch".  Maybe...

July 24, 2011
This is a highly textured plaster on canvas piece painted in acrylics. The fern leaf is raised relief, while the background is made up of textured impressions.  I think it gives the whole thing lots of depth!

July 21, 2011
I've added color to the topmost layer.

July 20, 2011
This is definitely still a work in progress.  It's plaster and acrylic on canvas.  A layer of plaster has been put over the painted layer to cure overnight.  Then more paint!

July 15, 2011
More fun with plaster on canvas!  This time I incorporated a fired aluminum heart on one.  I included a few with flash and from angles so the texture stands out.

July 14, 2011
These are experiments incorporating plaster and paper on canvas.  I'm using small canvases until I can work out the kinks...then watch out!

July 11, 2011
I've been working on this art doll off and on for the last several months.  She's nearly finished, but I need to sleep and look at her with fresh eyes tomorrow.  I built and soldered  her support frame.  The fabrics and ribbons are all from past projects or my clothing.  Her wing is embossed with a lovely fairy on one side and right now she's wearing my "Dream" booklace.  She's filled with pearls of wisdom and tiny treasures.  Her arms are made from pearl beads and antique book pages.  I'm going to make her some sort of stand or pedestal, because she just belongs on one, I think.
