Giant Puppet Rhoda Dragoo Commissioned
for West Dallas Bridge Opening
Bridge-o-Rama was the name given to West Dallas’ celebration of the opening of the Margaret Hunt Hill bridge the first weekend in March.
La Reunion TX’s role was to produce a signature event called the Parade of Giants. Fifteen artists, recruited and juried by LRTX and our partners Oil and Cotton and ArtLoveMagic, worked with fourteen community groups to build 15-foot-tall figures representing historical individuals important to the evolution of West Dallas. The parade began in West Dallas and crossed the new bridge.
Rhoda Dragoo was a Methodist Deaconess who won the right for Mexican children to attend public schools in the early 1900's. There were no reliable photographs of Ms. Dragoo, so the artist took creative license with her appearance.
